Day 12 - Astoria to Bend 10/13

Enjoyed yet another brilliant, sunny day! The area around the harbor in Astoria is great. There is a wonderful Maritime Museum, a restored Coast Guard CuLightship, an active CG cutter, and a Restored Tug Boat. (We've done the museum before -its awesome!). You can see large ships plying the mighty Columbia. We were in awe at the "car carrier" that was headed out to sea. It can carry 5000 new cars; comes across from Japan or Korea and delivers to Seattle, Vancouver, Portland and San Francisco. Our hotel room on the third floor had a nice view - with the window open we could hear the harbor seals barking all night long!

We resumed our southward journey on Rt 101 to Seaside, a favorite beach resort for Portlanders. The traffic coming in on this Saturday was amazing!

We worked our way down some back roads to the little town of Lafayette to meet our friends Steve and Mary for lunch. We drove over to McMinville for lunch at this cute little cafe called Wildwood. It was fun catching up with our old Bend friends!

We passed through Sisters on our way to Bend. Things are looking good there! We got to Bend about 6:30. Not sure where to have dinner, we ended up at an unfamiliar sports bar type place called the Timbers. The meal was good, the service was horrible.  But, we watched the Astros destroy the Red Sox on a big screen TV.

Home tomorrow - we're ready!
